Family Law: Spy Technology Sales Escalating

About 25% of our cases involve family law so we certainly can confirm the rising use of spy technology in these cases. I was interested to read that SpygearGadgets.com reported that hidden camera sales have risen 40% in the last year and sales for GPS tracking devices have risen by 80%. That's a pretty significant increase.
It is important for lawyers to advise their clients about the dubious legality of some of these devices. While they might provide great evidence, some judges may refuse to admit evidence gleaned by illegal means – some statutes actually compel the exclusion of evidence, notably in cases where there has been electronic interception. But there are also statutes in many states involving invasion of privacy, webcams and GPS tracking devices, etc.
Sadly, the illegal conduct often takes place before the party consults an attorney, in which case that party may find that the value of the evidence gained illicitly may be far outweighed by the legal consequences of the infraction of the law.
