Logikcull Calls eDiscovery "A Stain" on the Legal System

July 23, 2015

My friend Andy Wilson, the CEO of Logikcull, is certainly blunt. I guess this is to be expected from a man whose sartorial splendor generally includes red sneakers. 🙂

Andy made the news in a big way when he published an open letter addressed to "Honorable Practitioners of the Law" on his website. Much of what he writes is certainly true. eDiscovery drives up cost and risk. It has indeed become so expensive that it forces opposing parties into submission. It is generally overpriced and poorly understood by most attorneys and clients.

I admire Logikcull for taking eDiscovery in a direction that is simpler, cheaper, faster and more transparent.

I think a lot of folks agree with Andy that eDiscovery is a "stain" on our legal system which has resulted in a system where only large entities can afford to litigate. But he may wish he had gentled down the harsh words. He'll probably get pushback for publishing a letter that generally accuses the industry of milking lawyers and clients and slowing justice in very stark language.

Does Andy really want to put an end to eDiscovery? I don't think so – he just wants an end to eDiscovery as it exists today.

That is a train I can board.
