Woman "Stages" Rape Scene – Fitbit Helps Prove False Allegation

June 24, 2015

Hat tip to Leigh Isaacs.

As Pennsylvania's Lancaster Online reported recently, police officers acting on a 9-1-1 dispatch found overturned furniture inside an East Lampeter Township home on March 10th. The officers also found a knife and a bottle of vodka. Jeannine Risley, 43, claimed she had been raped by a stranger at midnight. Risley said she was asleep and awoke around midnight to the man on top of her.

Further investigation included a review of a Fitbit activity tracker which indicated that she was awake and walking around at the time she said she was raped.

She is now headed to trial on three misdemeanor counts for prompting the emergency response and manhunt for an intruder that allegedly never was.

Fitness trackers seem to be a ripe source of evidence these days. Fast forward to another decade and we are likely to be inundated by evidence created by wearable devices and the Internet of Things in general.
