Boasting About Planned Robbery on Facebook Not a Great Idea

March 11, 2015

I am addicted to stupid criminal stories. No matter how bad my day, they make me laugh. So I was tickled to read on naked security the story of Andrew Hennells in England. He got it in his mind to rob a branch of Tesco, an English supermarket chain.

So of course he posted his intention on Facebook. "Doing. Tesco. Over" Well, he must have had a law-abiding "friend" or a "friend" who was actually a cop because the police were tipped off. At 7:40 p.m., he demanded cash at the store. When armed police arrived, they were told he had fled to a local pub – and there they nabbed him. He was carrying a knife and about $620 (did the conversion from pounds!) in stolen cash.

Rather a slam dunk for the prosecution given the Facebook post. But I do love stupid criminals – they add immeasurably to our bottom line. And I absolutely love the idea of robbing a store and adjourning to the neighborhood pub with the loot and your weapon. Very British. Hope he enjoyed his pint before being hauled away.
