Encryption Used in Only Four Percent of Breaches

August 7, 2014

Shall we play a nice game of connect the dots?

Data protection firm SafeNet released its Breach Level Index report for the second quarter of 2014, which looked at 237 disclosed breaches worldwide. Encryption was used in only 10 of the 237 breaches.

Only two incidents were classified as "secure breaches" meaning that strong encryption, authentication solutions or key management rendered the breached data unusable.
