From the Chamber of Leaked (Law Firm) Secrets

August 5, 2013

Thanks to my friend, Virginia Lawyer's Weekly editor Paul Fletcher, for a humorous look at a breach of client confidentiality in the U.K. Paul wrote a blurb about the recent incident in which it was revealed that British author J.K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter books, penned a crime fiction novel under a pseudonym.

How was she outed? It turns out that He Who Must Not be Named was not at fault, but rather one of her lawyers, Chris Gossage, a senior lawyer at Russells Solicitors. Apparently the lady who spilled the beans (via Twitter no less) was given the revelation in confidence (hah!).

The law firm issued an unreserved apology for the disclosure. Word on the street is that Rowling isn't buying the apology. And as for Gossage, as my friend Paul notes, "you can bet he's looking high and low for an Invisibility Cloak."
