The 75th President of the Virginia State Bar: Reflections

July 17, 2013

I rarely post things that are purely personal, but it was a great honor to be sworn in by Virginia's Chief Justice Cynthia Kinser as the 75th President of the Virginia State Bar. It was the first time a woman President has been sworn in by a woman Chief Justice in Virginia – we've come a long way baby!

I take this honor solemnly and have a lot of work to do to adequately follow in the giant footsteps left by my predecessors. Here's an online link to the magazine where you will find my first President's Column ("It Isn't Your Dad's (or Mom's) Law practice Anymore: The Future of the Legal Profession") and an article entitled, "Her Father's Faith and Support Lead Nelson to the VSB Presidency," beautifully written by Virginia Lawyer reporter Gordon Hickey.

As you might expect, my out-of-conrol calendar has just reached "theater of the absurd" status. And yes, John and I are still managing to have fun. We don't always know where we are when we wake up, but it's still fun!
