JUST PUBLISHED: THE 2009 SOLO AND SMALL FIRM LEGAL TECHNOLOGY GUIDE

March 4, 2009

A small break from electronic evidence today, to announce that my fourth book has just been published by the American Bar Association. The 2009 Solo and Small Firm Legal Technology Guide: Critical Decisions Made Simple contains an introduction by noted legal technologist/writer/speaker Ross Kodner, who also kindly contributed a chapter entitled "Paperless or Paper LESS: The Quest to Sanely Manage Paper in Practice."

The book is not intended to be all-inclusive, but rather steers solo and small firm lawyers to the best of breed in the judgment of authors John Simek, Mike Maschke and myself. Topics covered include computers, monitors, peripherals, printers, scanners, servers, networking hardware, productivity software, security software, remote access, high-speed Internet, utilities, billing software, document management, document assembly, collaboration and unified messaging.

A review of the 2008 edition of this book said:

"What a timesaver! This much-needed resource from the ABA is long overdue. In a one-hour sitting, the information in this single and easy-to-read text enabled me to make 5 or 6 decisions regarding my office's computer hardware and software needs that would otherwise have taken me many hours of research! The information the authors have provided is up-to-date, very accurate, and given in the context of the unique issues facing solo and small firm lawyers. Thank you! I sincerely hope that we can expect (at least) annual updates to this constantly changing area of law firm management. I'll subscribe today!"

–James B. Creighton, Esq., Certified Specialist, Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law, The State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization, Creighton Law Offices, San Mateo, CA

Thank you James. As you can see, we took you at your word and are publishing annual revisions.

The book may be ordered from the ABA here.

In this dismal economic times, I hope this book will help solo and small firm lawyers make sound choices in legal technology. Happy reading.
