23 States Now Require Technological Competence

August 3, 2016

Add Wisconsin and Washington to the growing number of states that now (or soon) require technological competence. The states don't act quickly but they are clearly on the move in mandating that lawyers must understand the risks and benefits of the technology they use and that they must use technology appropriately to safeguard their client data.

The Wisconsin changes become effective on January 1, 2017 and the Washington changes become effective on September 1, 2016.

Thanks to Bob Ambrogi for keeping a watchful eye out for states adopting the duty of competence.
