Panama Papers: The World’s Dirty Laundry Becomes Searchable on May 9th

May 2, 2016

CNET has reported that round two of the Panama Papers, the more than 11 million legal and financial records of the breached Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, will be released in searchable format on May 9th.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), a German newspaper and other news groups spent more than a year sifting through these records, and published in April documents exposing the tax shelters of 140 politicians and public figures, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Icelandic government officials and the beleaguered soccer organization FIFA.

While the ICIJ says round two won't include a "data dump" of the original documents or the large-scale release of personal data, it has said the next phase "will likely be the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them."

For some, there will be no place to run and no place to hide. To someone in my line of work, this is better than the premiere of the new Star Wars movie (well, not by TOO much).
