25% of U.S. Troops Will Be Robotic by 2030

January 12, 2016

That, according to a ZDNet story, is the on-the-record prediction of one Army general who stated that 25% of all U.S. troops would be replaced by autonomous or remote-controlled machines by 2030.

Robots are the future of warfare. Just take a look at the recent Russian and Iranian initiatives in the area of robotic warfare. It's downright scary.

And if you think only countries will have them, think again. They will be for sale to terrorist groups as well. It's inevitable. Heck, they will be able to get the parts to make such robots themselves.

In a real-world scenario in the recent past, you didn't fire on a ship because they might fire on you and human lives would be lost. But robots are essentially dispensable, so there would be fewer "diplomatic brakes" applied to potential attacks. And if the robots themselves are allowed to make the decisions to attack, God help us. But because they can react faster than a human, they'll inevitably build them that way, at least eventually.

If I sound like a Gloomy Gus, I am in the excellent company of people like Bill Gates and Elon Musk, both of whom have expressed similar thoughts. The future of warfare is truly terrifying.
