ABA House of Delegates Passes Cybersecurity Resolution

August 13, 2013

As a member of the ABA's Cybersecurity Legal Task Force and a member of the ABA's House of Delegates, I was pleased to see the HOD pass a cybersecurity resolution yesterday. As you'll notice if you read the redlined version of the resolution, the original resolution only talked about intrusions into lawyers' networks by foreign governments – it was changed to simply "governments" in light of our new knowledge of what our own government is doing.

The resolution urges the U.S. government to work with other nations and groups “to develop legal mechanisms, norms and policies” to deter, prevent and punish such breaches.

One small step, to be sure, but a step that needed to be taken.
