Dutch Decorate Surveillance Cams with Party Hats for Orwell's Birthday

July 9, 2013

I am getting tired of gloomy news – time for a party. Thank you Dave Ries for pointing out that the Dutch know how to party – two Dutch artists got the inspired idea to celebrate George Orwell's June 25th birthday by adorning surveillance cameras in festive party hats. Quite right lads – a good way to highlight the fact that we are increasingly watched by the government and law enforcement.

It is a good time to re-read (or read for the first time) the classic book "1984" – we are approaching that society with increasing speed. And if you'd like to see the party hats, you may find them here.

And a pertinent quote:

'He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.'

One day, we may be told that we never had privacy. The Fourth Amendment may be whitewashed from history. Today's truths may become tomorrow's lunacies. But for now, wear a party hat in tribute to the uncannily accurate prophesies of George Orwell.
