FBI Creates a Glossary of Internet Acronyms for its Agents

July 3, 2014

While the U.S. is getting ready for a relaxing three day weekend, it didn't seem fair to post a serious story.

So here is one just to make you chuckle at your tax dollars in action.

The ABA Journal reported that the FBI is confused by acronyms such as TLOL (totally laughing out loud) and NIFOC (naked in front of computer). Yeah guys, I always forget that one too.

But now they can consult an 83-page glossary compiled for their use. The FBI released the guide (PDF) in response to a FOIA request. The low res copy is hardly legible. On the other hand, I'm not sure how useful it would be even if it were legible.

How many times have you seen BOGSAT = Bunch of guys sitting around talking

ITYWIMWYBMAD = If I tell you what it means will you buy me a drink?

DILLIGAD = Does it look like I give a damn?

So the FBI, like every other government agency, is comically spending our monies on a guide that probably isn't worth much. What else is new?

DILLIGAD.

And happy July 4th!
