Google Publishes a "Way of a Warrant" Video

March 31, 2014

Did you ever wonder what happens when Google is served with a warrant from the authorities? Well, here it is, in a beautiful and easy-to-understand animated video. Hat tip to Dave Ries.

Here is how Google describes it: "Requests for user information from governments around the world are up 120 percent since 2009: http://goo.gl/11v9LP. Often these requests come in the form of a warrant from a government agency in the U.S.—here’s a video showing how we protect users' information from excessive requests, while also following the law."

Google has become an outspoken advocate for privacy since the Snowden revelations about NSA surveillance and is taking strong measures to protect its users' privacy, including encrypting users' search terms in transmission.

For those of you who have seen the recent Lego movie, you'll understand if I break out into a chorus of "Everything is awesome!"
