HANY’S MY HERO: DETECTING ALTERED DIGITAL IMAGES

They just don’t come MUCH smarter than Hany Farid. This Dartmouth professor, who is widely regarded as the best of the best at detecting altered digital images (and wrote software to assist this process), wrote an article for this month’s issue of Scientific American. He shares some of his tips and tricks – some of it was brand new to me – and absolutely fascinating. Of all the problems with electronic evidence, proving image alteration is one of the most nettling. If you have any interest in this sort of magic, these are must-reads. Hany, I’m a fan!
