Hit-and-Run Driver Turned In by Her Own Car

December 16, 2015

As the UK's Mirror reported, a Florida woman accused of a hit-and-run offense was reportedly identified after her own car called as she tried to flee the scene. Police said Cathy Bernstein sped off after smashing into both a truck and a van.

Her Ford's 911 Assist system called police, providing her details, location and connecting her to an operator. The dispatcher talked to Cathy Bernstein, who denied there had been a crash. When police went to her home, they saw significant front-end damage to her vehicle.

Thinking quickly (good grief) she said she'd hit a tree. Eventually she admitted to the hit-and-run and noted that she was actually trying to escape from an early crash. I have a feeling things are not going to go well for her. I'll bet she's rethinking her vehicle's 911 Assist system.
