Information Governance Initiative Goes Live on the Net

February 4, 2014

Yesterday, the website for the Information Governance Initiative went live on the Net. Thanks to the head's up from my friend Jason Baron.

The Information Governance Initiative is a cross-disciplinary consortium and think tank focused on advancing information governance. It is dedicated to moving forward the adoption of Information Governance practices and technologies through research, publishing, advocacy and peer-to-peer networking. The IGI publishes research, benchmarking surveys, and guidance for practitioners that is freely available on its website. Later this year the IGI will be adding an online community designed to foster discussion and networking among practitioners.

If you scroll down the home page, you find a stellar list of Charter Supporters.

Jason, formerly the Director of Litigation at The National Archives, now part of the Information Governance and eDiscovery Group of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP wrote me a note saying, "The IGI is a new initiative aimed at advancing the discussion on how corporations and other institutions can better cope with legal issues arising in a world of big data. I share the vision of the founders of the IGI, Bennett Borden and Barclay Blair, that we should really attempt to make progress in the area of information governance, as a matter if corporate responsibility. My own background coming out of public service is informed by many years spent attempting to implement best practices in the records and information space, and with respect to ediscovery. I am expecting to apply what lessons I learned to this new platform, and am delighted to have an opportunity to contribute to the greater dialogue. This is also going to be a new platform to test out some rather forward looking tools and technologies. I certainly look forward to being a part of this new venture, and encourage any of your devoted readers who may be interested in IG to sign up as well!"

So check it out and if you are interested in Information governance, sign up!
