Lawyers at Perkins Coie Use Box for File Access Anywhere

September 3, 2014

Hat tip to Dave Ries for sharing a video interview with Gavin Gray, the CIO of Perkins Coie, talking about the firm's partnership with Box to allow their lawyers access to their files anytime and anywhere. Gray notes, "I don't think you can put the genie back in the bottle. People are going to work the way they want to work to keep their lives easier."

He says that Box understands ethical issues for lawyers and allows firm management to monitor, manage and control access to firm files through Box. This, as he notes, is a lot better than lawyers putting files on flash drives that they can easily lose, or e-mailing files to their personal web-based e-mail account or carrying paper around. Using Box, he says, they can easily work at home, at the office or on the road, always having access to their files and being able to collaborate with clients.

Nicely done video. It made me want to check Box out more thoroughly – we have recently begun to recommend Box and Spider Oak over Dropbox, which still has the lion's share of lawyers but doesn't offer the same level of security.
