New Sources of Evidence: Live Streaming Apps

May 4, 2015

Hat tip Rob Robinson for alerting me to the fact that the Meerkat live streaming app has beaten Periscope to Android and that we all need to be mindful of yet another source of digital evidence. As a TheNextWeb post reminds us, live streaming wars are well underway and Meerkat claimed a victory over Twitter's Periscope by being the first live streaming app available on Android (though it still has a beta tag).

Meerkat allows you to stream video to your friends on Twitter, watch other users’ streams and chat with the broadcaster. Unlike Periscope, Meerkat can't save a livestream but there are third-party apps to help you do that.

The allure of live streaming apps mostly eludes me – more worthless drivel consuming our time (if we allow it). Live streaming from space or deep under the ocean – ok. But I foresee all kinds of racy live streaming videos appearing in our family law cases, none of them suitable for public viewing.

Then again, if it's good for business, why complain?
