Cell Phone Analysis Helps Solve Case at UCF

Police detectives at the University of Central Florida are utilizing digital forensics software to assist in investigating daily casework. UCF Police Detective Melissa Guadagnino told Click Orlando that cell phone evidence plays a role in virtually every case.

Recently, a man was accused of recording a video up the skirt of a young woman at a graduation ceremony. When confronted, the man who recorded the video deleted it and claimed it didn’t happen. Guadagnino obtained a search warrant to perform a forensic examination of the phone and located several videos of him recording up females’ skirts. The evidence led to him being convicted and a sentence of five years on probation.

Additionally, an earlier case involved a police tip that a 19 year-old sophomore had modified his assault-style rifle into a fully automatic machine gun. After an examination, Guadagnino discovered evidence of the student purchasing parts to transform a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic one. The student was ultimately banned from campus.
