Hacker Arrested After Investigation Leads to Evidence of Voyeurism, Stalking, and Computer Crime
March 25, 2021
Recently the Denver Post published a story detailing the recent investigation and eventual arrest of Chun Min Chiang by the Golden Colorado Police department. The investigation started in September when the Colorado Mountain Club, a regional mountaineering organization, reported a hack of their social media account which included a link to a pornographic video posted online.
The department had reason to believe the woman who was the subject of the video was not aware she had been filmed. Once the victim was identified, this fear was confirmed. The victim pointed to Chaing as the potential social media account hacker and creator of the video.
In December, the Golden Police, the local Sheriff’s office, and digital forensic specialists from both county and state levels worked together to serve a search warrant on Chiang’s home. A myriad of devices and digital evidence were uncovered in the search, including thousands of images and videos of women being recorded in various states of undress apparently without their knowledge. The videos appeared to have been taken from underneath skirts as well as in restrooms and fitting rooms. Police also located hundreds of pictures and videos of alleged child pornography.
Chiang has been arrested on suspicion of stalking, burglary and invasion of privacy-sexual gratification. Additional charges stemming from the suspected child pornography and social media hack have also been brought.
