Wireless Charging Bad for iPhones
March 15, 2018
For whatever reason, iPhone users seem to chronically complain about the battery for their phone. Things have gotten better over time and Apple has finally introduced wireless charging. However, the latest versions of the iPhone don't even support the fastest available wireless charging specification. ZDNet reported that wireless charging of iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X may actually be bad for battery life. Apple says its iPhone batteries are designed to "retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles." Apparently, charging wirelessly causes you to accelerate the charging cycles. The main reason is that using a cable "bypasses" the battery by supplying power to the phone while also charging. Using wireless charging charges the battery, which in turn powers the phone.
If you are an iPhone user, you may want to stick with a charging cable if battery life seems to be decaying at a faster rate.
