Employees – the Elevated Security Threat

April 17, 2017

As a business owner, it is a constant struggle to balance our business goals with keeping employees happy. A recent report from Dtex highlights just how far employees will go to do what they want to do. The report shows that employees are almost as big a security risk as outsiders. Dtex analyzed its customer base and discovered that 95% showed employees engaged in activities designed to bypass security and web-based restrictions in their organizations. Employees used methods such as anonymous VPN connections, the TOR browser and vulnerability testing tools to get around technical restrictions designed to limit employee access. Employee use policies are a good starting point because you'll never be able to stop all of the clever ways employees will bypass restrictions.
