Your Ears are the Next Biometric

March 17, 2016

It's possible to enable system access using biometric scans of fingerprints, voice and irises. The new biometric on the block is ears. NEC has developed the new technology and claims 99% accuracy. It works by measuring the unique effect your ears have on sound. Basically, there is a microphone and receiver placed in your ear. An acoustic signal is generated for a few hundred milliseconds and then the response is measured. According to NEC, the transmitted soundwaves are changed by the time they are received and vary from ear to ear, making each reading unique. Apparently, all of your body piercings don't impact the results either. It sounds like some engineer may have too much time on their hands.
