Technical Preview Available for Microsoft Office 2016 and Skype for Business
March 17, 2015
It is official. You can now test Office 2016 by signing up for the technical preview. The leaked version shows a new colorful theme. Not all of the features are currently available, but the plan is to improve search, storage footprint, e-mail delivery performance and image insertion in Word and Excel. The Office 2016 technical preview is aimed at IT professionals and developers. Unlike Microsoft’s prior attempts to kill macros and add-ins, Office 2016 will still have them, which should make those who run complex macros very happy.
In addition to the Office 2016 announcement, the technical preview of Skype for Business was also released. Skype for Business looks very similar to the consumer version. The new version of Skype is the replacement for Lync, Microsoft’s primary communications tool for businesses. If you are currently a Lync user, it is encouraged to sign up for the technical preview in order to be ready for the upgrade that should only be a few weeks away. Skype for Business is also included in Office 2016, but that release date will be much later.
