Windows 7 Exits Mainstream Support
January 14, 2015
On January 13, 2015, Windows 7 exited the classification of mainstream support and moved into extended support. Some believe that this means Windows 7 is heading down the same path as the Windows XP death march. Not so. So what does this change of support really mean? It means that there will no longer be any new features and you can’t call Microsoft for free support. The good news is that you will still be receiving security updates (unlike XP) at least until January 14, 2020. I’m guessing you’ll have a new computer by then.
