Apple Patches Shellshock Vulnerability
October 1, 2014
Apple is one of the latest to release a patch for the Shellshock vulnerability. The patch fixes the “Shellshock” bug in the Bourne Again Shell, otherwise known as Bash. Bash is the most common command line shell on Linux and Unix machines. The vulnerability allows an attacker to attach a malicious executable to an environment variable that is automatically executed when Bash is invoked.
Apple has provided patches for OS X Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks. Links to download the software update and instructions for determining if the flaw was fixed are available in a post on KrebsonSecurity.
