Office for iPad – Major Update

August 20, 2014

Microsoft has released a major update for Office running on the iPad. It’s been a couple of weeks now, so make sure you download the update if you haven’t already done so. Some of the features will work with the free version, but you should really have an Office 365 subscription to take full advantage of Office on the iPad.

All three of the Office apps (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) will get the following features:

  • Export to PDF
  • New picture editing tools
  • Third-party font support

Excel gets PivotTable improvements, a new flick gesture, better hardware keyboard support and printing improvements. PowerPoint gets Presenter view, ability to embed video directly into the presentation, better annotations and the ability to directly edit hyperlinks.

As Microsoft has promised, it will continue to deliver improvements to Office for the iPad. That will be an ongoing project, but remember that you can install a full blown version of Office on the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
