Another T-Mobile Data Breach!?

According to a recent article on arstechnica.com, telecom giant T-Mobile has suffered yet another data breach. This would be the second this year, and the ninth since 2018.

According to T-Mobile’s investigation, the breach occurred between February 24 and March 30 and compromised the personal information of 836 customers. The stolen information included names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, government IDs and T-Mobile account PINs. The account PINs can be used by customers to authorize changes to their accounts and even swap SIMs. According to T-Mobile, they have reset all account PINs and are taking steps to improve security measures to prevent future attacks.

If there is a silver lining to this most recent breach, it is that it appears to have only affected a relatively small number of customers unlike other recent incidents, such as the breach spanning from late November 2022 to early January 2023 which exposed the data of 37 million customers.
