Directions Using Landmarks in Google Maps

April 17, 2018

If you have ever used a GPS or other mapping device to get to a destination, you know that it is sometimes difficult to see street signs when approaching a turn. Google is experimenting with using landmarks to help you navigate along your route. Let's face it. Landmarks are easier to see and will give you more advanced warning than squinting for a street name. Wouldn't you rather hear "Turn left after the car wash" instead of "Turn left on 12th street?" Google is testing the use of landmarks and hasn't announced if or when there will be a large scale release. Right now the landmarks are limited. It certainly sounds like a great idea.
