Dropbox iOS App Scans Documents
June 23, 2016
Dropbox has announced a bunch of new features for its iOS app to include scanning a document directly to Dropbox. The user takes a picture of the document. Dropbox then applies optical character recognition (OCR) to make the text searchable. Another announced feature according to TechCrunch is a big "plus" button at the bottom of the app that is used to make new Office documents. You can also import scanned documents into the Office documents. In addition, users will have the ability to preview previous versions of documents.
Don't get all excited yet. The new mobile app features are only available for Dropbox business users. Most of the folks I know that use Dropbox are consumer users. Business users typically opt for other services such as Box for Business or Citrix ShareFile. There is no announced date for an Android version of the app, but who cares if you're not a Dropbox business user?
