Emergency Patch for Internet Explorer

December 20, 2018

Is anyone still using IE? Perhaps not, but it is still installed on a ton of Windows machines. Then again, there are those websites that haven’t been updated and won’t render correctly unless you use IE. Whether you use IE or not, Microsoft issued an out-of-band security update to patch a critical zero-day vulnerability. The vulnerability is being tracked as CVE-2018-8653. It is a remote code execution (RCE) flaw, which can cause memory corruption allowing the attacker to execute arbitrary code. “The IE zero-day vulnerability impacts IE 9 on Windows Server 2008, IE 10 on Windows Server 2012, IE 11 from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and IE 11 on Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2.”
