Fujitsu ScanSnap, PDF and Mac: A Buggy Combination

If you are a Mac user and need to edit PDFs generated by Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner using Preview, a bug has been discovered that surfaced when Apple updated its PDFKit code. Developers are complaining about compatibility issues since the update. Adam C. Engst, publisher of TidBITS and author of the bug report, stated that the just issued macOS 10.12.2 presents a serious new bug involving PDFKit: namely, the "OCR text layer added to scanned PDFs by Fujitsu's ScanSnap software will be deleted if you edit the PDF in Preview." The current workaround is to use something other than Preview to edit the PDFs.
