Help Prevent Hacked Accounts: Use Two-Factor Authentication

You should be using two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever you can. Two-factor authentication adds an additional layer of security "on top of" your normal user ID and password. You've probably already seen 2FA in action. A very common method is to register your smartphone to the website. When you login with your user ID and password, typically you'll get a text message with a numeric code that has to be entered on the site in order to complete the login process. Therefore, if someone tries to hack your account, they won't be able to receive the text message and access your account.

Setting up 2FA varies by application. The Verge has a posting that tells you how to setup 2FA for a large number of online accounts such as Dropbox, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Check it out and start using two-factor authentication.
