SanDisk Announces New Flash Memory Drives – Big and Small
June 3, 2015
Storage devices consisting of no moving parts are the latest rage. Solid state drives and flash memory offer the highest speeds and the best performance available. Not to be outdone, SanDisk has announced a 2 terabyte solid state drive and the smallest form factor flash drive of any manufacturer. The SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSDs come in capacities of up to 2TB of storage and offer transfer speeds that are nine times faster than a portable hard drive. The cost of the 2TB version is $999.99. The first time I spent a thousand dollars for a disk drive was for a 1GB (that’s gigabyte) Fujitsu SCSI drive for a server I built.
Besides the huge SSD drives, SanDisk also announced the smallest USB 3.0 flash drive at a capacity of 128GB. Wow! One hundred and twenty eight times more capacity than that Fujitsu SCSI drive and no moving parts.
