Hackers Post CLE Info from Rutgers, 100 Universities Attacked

October 17, 2012

There is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide from hackers. A group calling itself Team Ghostshell took responsibility for attacking 100 universities, including Rutgers' law schools. According to the ABA Journal article, 1500 lawyers were advised that their names, addresses, encrypted passwords, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses were accessed.

The information was posted online but has since been removed. The hacker group said it was protesting rising education costs and student loan debt. I'm having some difficulty figuring out how the hack advances the stated goal, but that is common these days.

Rutgers has said it is tightening security on its website. Doh. It seems the farmer always gets security conscious once the fox has made off with the chickens.
