SHARON NELSON IS QUOTED IN THE FEBRUARY 2014 EDITION OF “VIRGINIA BUSINESS”

March 6, 2014

Sharon Nelson of Sensei Enterprises, Inc. is quoted in an article titled, “The Verdict on Legal Technology” in the most recent edition of Virginia Business.

Law firms have not been keeping up with the adoption of technology as other industries have for two reasons:  The lack of competition from outside industries and the rule stating law firms must be owned by lawyers and not being able to accept outside capital investment.

Recently the U.S. law firms have been striving to make the technological changes and have multiple options with cost-effective services, such as digital document creation and case assessment tools, but still have a long way to go because these same firms are now facing competition from foreign-based law firms that are able to seek outside venture capital to help pay for new technology.

“We have seen more change to the practice of law in the past 10 years than in the previous 200 years,” says Sharon Nelson, president of the Virginia State Bar and president of Sensei Enterprises Inc., a Fairfax County digital forensics, information security and information technology company. “Attorneys who were active up until the early part of this century would not even recognize the practice of law today.”
