Transfer LastPass Data to Another Password Manager
February 24, 2021
LastPass has announced restrictions for the free version forcing users to pick a single device type (computer or mobile) going forward. As a result, many current users are looking to jump ship and move to a different password manager rather than going to a paid version of LastPass. A major stumbling block may be the preservation of all the data already present in your LastPass vault. No worries. The Verge has a post explaining how to move your LastPass data to a different password manager.
Password managers typically use some sort of data export function to get the information out of the encrypted vault. LastPass is no exception. The LastPass data is exported in a CSV or XML format. CSV is more universal and the preferred method. The best way to export the LastPass data is to use the browser extension on a computer or laptop. Go to Account Options -> Advanced -> Export -> LastPass CSV File. Put in your master password and off you go.
Don’t forget to delete your LastPass account and data once you are comfortable using your replacement password manager. The Verge post has a listing of some alternative password managers to consider.
