External SSD for Increasing Storage
December 16, 2021
Solid State Drives (SSD) are much faster than conventional spinning disk drives. The majority of devices we analyze in our forensics lab are equipped with SSDs. If you need to augment your storage capacity, why not go with an SSD there too? SSDs are smaller, faster, but do cost a little more money. How-To Geek has recommendations for your selection of external solid state drives.
The Samsung T7 is the best overall selection. You get 1TB of capacity for around $130 on Amazon. There are other suggestions available from other manufacturers. Make sure you have a USB 3 port available to connect the drive to maximize the transfer speeds. If you only have slower USB 2 ports on your machine, you might as well investigate external USB drives that use a traditional hard drive.
