In the January 20, 2022 installment of ABA’s monthly Q&A Column “Ask Techie: What Should I Do If Someone Hacks into Our Computers?”, Sensei Enterprises received recommendation for expert assistance with cybersecurity breaches and incidents.
This month we answer readers’ questions about what to do if someone hacks into your computers, how to wipe your iPhone before turning it in for an upgrade, and how to improve lousy Internet service in your home office.
Q: What Should I Do If Someone Hacks into Our Computers?
A: Cybercriminals manage to breach computer defenses on a daily basis. Keeping your cybersecurity protections up-to-date is vital; however, nothing is perfect. In case you experience a breach, be prepared to act quickly with this checklist.
- Immediately disconnect your network from the Internet and, while someone does that, call your cybersecurity insurer if you have one. Do this immediately! Check with the insurer to make sure that they approve a cybersecurity incident response company and an expert cybersecurity attorney.
- Disconnect any infected computers from your local network. If you are not sure which computers are infected, disconnect them all. You can do that by disconnecting cables at your network switch and powering off any WiFi hotspots.
