Best Free Cloud Storage Providers

March 16, 2022

Everybody likes free. Cloud storage is no exception. How-To Geek has a post to help you choose which free cloud storage provider you should consider. It lists five of the favorite and recommended services to use to store your data in the cloud.

  • Google Drive: 15 GB
  • Microsoft OneDrive: 5 GB
  • MEGA: 20 GB for the first year
  • IceDrive: 10 GB
  • Sync.com: 5 GB

I have to admit, there are a few in the list I have never heard of. Notice that Dropbox is not on the list, primarily because you only get 2 GB of free storage. iCloud is missing too. Apple users get 5 GB of free storage for their Apple devices. Apple only gives you 1 GB of free storage if you don’t have an Apple device. Remember that these are free services and should be considered to be insecure. If you want to protect your data AND use a free cloud service, make sure you encrypt the data prior to transferring to cloud storage.
