Replace Vulnerable D-Link Routers
April 6, 2022
The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has really stepped up its cybersecurity game over the last few years. CISA is an excellent resource for plain English recommendations. Its Shields Up section of the website is particularly valuable guidance to protect your environment, especially resulting from the Russian/Ukraine activity.
One of the recommendations is to apply patches as soon as they are available and stop using technology that is no longer supported. As more people continue to work from home for some portion of the time, securing the home environment is important too. Malwarebytes reported on CISA’s recommendation to replace some models of D-Link routers that have reached end-of-life (EOL). As long as you are replacing your router, perhaps considering moving to a Wi-Fi 6 or 6E system. CNET has a post comparing the eero 6 Plus and the eero 6E Pro Wi-Fi mesh routers. Unfortunately, the post doesn’t discuss the eero 6 Pro system, which sits between the two. At the present time, there are not many home systems that can take advantage of the 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connection. You really can’t go wrong with any of the eero systems.
