Is Cloud Cheaper than DIY?

April 14, 2022

Inflation is killing us all. Eggs cost more at the grocery store. Gas prices are some of the highest we have ever seen. Our budgets are getting squeezed and we are looking for ways to reduce expenses. Can moving to the cloud help to get costs under control? I stumbled across an eWeek post that attempts to answer that very question.

Obviously, the answer will depend on your specific circumstances and needs. However, generally the cloud will be a better decision. When you do your analysis, make sure you identify all of the costs that impact your operation. As an example, there is a real cost in waiting for the delivery of any required hardware. The cloud can help you implement much faster, meaning the savings start sooner. Be sure to read through the post to get a better understanding of considerations of cloud computing.

I agree with the author that the cloud is here to stay. “Eventually, non-cloud on-premises systems will go the way of 8-tracks and VCRs, partly due to new advances in cloud capabilities, mostly due to the lack of sales and support options.”
