What’s Coming with the Next Windows 10 Version?
October 20, 2020
The current version of Windows 10 is 2004. Windows 10 Version 20H2 is scheduled for release just around the corner. Paul Thurrott has posted information about what to expect with the new version. As Paul stated, "As with last year's Windows 10 version 1909 release, Windows 10 version 20H2 is a minor refinement of its predecessor, with six additional months of bug and security fixes and just a handful of functional improvements."
One of the first things you will notice is a change in how the versions are named. Previously, the Windows version was labeled with the year/month of release. Going forward, the versions will be named in a year/half-year convention. The new version will also install the new Chromium-based Edge browser by default. There is a change to the Start menu too when you are using Light app mode. A big change is how Alt + Tab will work. The current operation of Alt + Tab scrolls through all the running applications and open windows. Version 20H2 will do the same thing but adds toggling the three most recent tabs in the new Edge. I would suggest changing the default operation back to just scrolling through running applications and open windows, ignoring anything going on in Edge. There are a couple of other changes dealing with Your Phone app and Xbox games as well.
