Firefox Stutters on Windows 11

November 1, 2022

If you use Firefox with Suggested Actions enabled on Windows 11, your device may freeze up for a bit while copying text. How annoying. Mozilla confirmed a problem with Firefox and Windows 11 22H2. BleepingComputer has a post describing the problem and how to fix it. “The browser freezes for a period of time (over 20 seconds), during which the entire window (chrome, viewport) is unresponsive to user input. Video and animation appears to continue playing. After a while, the browser becomes responsive again. The amount of time is variable, and seems to depend on the number of extensions loaded – my default profile can freeze for minutes.”

Updating to Firefox 16.0.3 fixes the problem. You can also disable the Suggested Actions feature”

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard or open the Start menu and type Clipboard in the search field.
  2. Press the Enter key or select Clipboard Settings from the results. This will take you to the system Clipboard settings.
  3. Toggle the switch next to Suggested Actions to turn it off.
