Recent Apple Operating Systems – Bucket Full of Bugs

June 2, 2020

It's not a good time to own an Apple device. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or iPhone. Apple has had a bad time with bugs in the latest versions of the operating systems. The Register recounts the history of bugs in the latest versions of macOS Catalina 10.15. Catalina 10.15 has been a journey through hell since its release in October 2019. It started with battery problems and apps that just stopped working. There were problems with peripherals too. Version two fixed some of the issues, but it wasn't a total success. Version three was better, but not complete. Version four blew up systems with crashes and endless spinning hard disks. Is version five the answer? The suggestion is to wait several weeks to see. As the Register quoted:

"Worst OS there is! I hate it. It's the absolute worst. It takes my login screen forever to open. My apps are running slow, very slow. I lost some of the software that I previously had installed in my computer… If I knew this operating system was going to be terrible like this, I would not have downloaded it. I absolutely hate it, I regret upgrading."

It's not just macOS either. iOS 13.5 is full of bugs too as reported by ZDNet. In fact, ZDNet called the release a "toxic hellstew of bugs." There are battery problems and broken MP4 playback. There are also reports of devices stuck in non-stop reboots. Probably the biggest news was the existence of a jailbreak that works on all recent iOS releases, including iOS 13.5. Not to worry. Supposedly, iOS 13.5.1 fixes the vulnerability and stops the jailbreak from working, but that's it as ZDNet reports. The underlying bugs in iOS 13.5 still seem to exist.

Oh, well. It looks like Apple is back to releasing buggy software. Not a good time to be running the latest versions.
