Remote Work Increase Daily Teams Users

March 23, 2020

The new normal is working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are scrambling to get their employees functioning in a work-at-home environment. To support the increase in virtual meetings, many users are turning to Microsoft Teams to communicate with clients and co-workers. TechCrunch reports that usage of Microsoft Teams has spiked to 44 million daily active users (DAU). Perhaps that's because Teams comes free with your Office 365 subscription.

One of the complaints I hear about Teams is the lack of a dial-in phone number for users that don't have Teams. The truth is that you can use your regular phone to participate in a Teams meeting. Audio Conferencing ability is included for no additional charge if you subscribe to the Office 365 E5 version. If you have Office 365 E1 or E3, you can get dial-in for a $4.00/month add-on fee. Non-enterprise subscribers can buy a Phone System and a Calling Plan, but I'll bet upgrading to E3 with the add-on fee will end up being cheaper.
