Some key findings:

  • Hacking (no shock) was the most common form of data breach followed by unauthorized access and then accidental exposure.
  • Marriott International had the highest number of reported records exposed, impacting 383 million people.
  • The business industry had the highest number of reported breaches (46%) followed by medical/healthcare industries (29%) and banking/credit/financial industries (11%).
  • Subcontractor and third party breaches climbed, representing 102 of the 1,244 breaches reported.

Those are the key findings of the first 17 pages but there is much granular detail in the 180 page report.
