Watch a Power Bank Catch Fire in Airplane Overhead Bin

February 27, 2018

As CNET reported on February 25th, our technology can sometimes prove unexpectedly dangerous. Indeed, you can watch a pretty spectacular fire in a carry-on bag that had been placed in an overhead bin, with the power bank the reported culprit. The power bank wasn't in use at the time. The China Southern flight attendants scrambled to put the fire out, using bottled water and what looks like orange juice.

This is a stark reminder that lithium ion batteries are not always stable. Be careful what you pack!
